Joyce is a 3rd generation Asian American San Franciscan who currently lives in San Francisco, California with her spouse, Leonard (also 3rd gen), and Zoe and Gus, their cat and dog respectively. Her children attended independent schools in San Francisco from Kindergarten through high school. Joyce graduated from UC Davis with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and then earned an MS in Materials Science and Engineering from Stanford University before heading out to NYC, where she collected her JD from NYU Law School. As a law student in NYC, Joyce was part of a coalition of students of color leading protests against discrimination and harassment against people of color. She practiced law in San Francisco for 25 years eventually specializing in patents, intellectual property, and high technology. Throughout her adult life, Joyce has been an advocate for social justice, equity and inclusion. Joyce loves meeting people and getting to know their stories. She also understands the power of connecting people and truly believes that together we are better. She does not believe in the zero-sum game; but rather, that we just need to make more pie.
